Physical activity: Physical activity is any bodily movement of skeletal muscles, at a cost of energy.
Sport: Sport is an activity, physical ability, physical fitness, and strategy or technique, usually but not always, the competition between two or more persons.
A physically active lifestyle would be dominant us from childhood to adulthood and is a goal that parents should strive for. This target was not difficult so far to Pratt, macera & Blanton (1999), they found that physical activity declined with advancing grades in children and adolescents. But all hope is not lost, there is a further increase in the probability of physical activity a lifelong endeavor, as researchers found, when the activities that are fun.
What is my child? Sport or physical activity?
Physical activity should be encouraged in children and adolescents as lifelong habit (Kohl & Hobbs III, 1998). A positive physical activity may be part of games, the kids a lot of activities, social interaction and personal commitment.
On the other hand, is the sport of higher complexity, with structures, rules, authorities, physical exertion and other claims that do not offer what children want. Thus, sport can not promote intrinsic motivation and positive self-efficacy. Sport should not be introduced to protect children from physical activity. (Barrett, 2001). Figl & Whitaker (1991), mentions that in the sport, having fun is to be hoped, but not necessarily part of the business.
What would be an appropriate physical activity?
Motivating factors, the children love to have fun, develop skills and movement in a physical activity. With these factors, the child social, emotional and physical needs are met. Therefore, Barrett (2001) came to the conclusion that they promote the motivation of the child to return repeatedly to the activity.
Coakley 2004, pointed out that physical activity, the children should not interfere with an emphasis on more, they should focus more on fun and participation. We must be on enjoyment and participation, so that the children stay. In addition, we should have children with the necessary measures to improve and promote their self-belief, social support, and fun. This results in children to maintain and increase participation in physical activity levels (Weiss, 1993).
Influence of parents important?
The parents have proven to be powerful influences on their children\’s physical activity patterns by activity. This is reflected particularly by the modeling and reinforcement behavior (Stucky-Ropp & DiLorenzo, 1993). An example would be a child\’s interest and participation in physical activity strengthened and supported by the verbal and nonverbal means, with their parents. Parents who have their own physical activity also convey the same message to their children. (Weiss, 2000).
So next time you go for an exercise regime, or physical activity, do not whine, you say \”Give it to me!\” or \”Let us walk together children!\”.
